ABOUT FESTIVAL

Vector-1.png

The International Disaster Film Festival (UAFF or AFF) is a festival focusing on natural or man-made disasters and their effects.
The festival, the first of which will be held in Ankara between 21-26 May, will be held in memory of the 6 February earthquake in Turkey.
The aim of the festival is to raise public awareness of disasters at national and international level and to encourage the production of more films on disasters and their impacts in the field of cinema. For this purpose, feature films, short films, documentaries and animations on disasters will be screened and more than 1 million Turkish Liras in total will be awarded in these categories. The films that will apply to the festival must deal with disaster themes. One of the aims of the festival is to highlight the concept of disaster in Turkey and worldwide.
During the festival, panels with the participation of experts in various fields ranging from art history to architecture, from urbanism to bureaucracy and international relations, symposiums on disasters and their effects, and talks on cinema will be organised. These events aim to provide participants with an in-depth perspective on the social and cultural dimensions of disasters, as well as the place of disaster in cinema.
By drawing attention to the effects of disasters, the festival aims to be an important step in creating social awareness and being prepared for disasters.
